The Texas Veterans Commission has awarded a $250,000 grant to Smith County Habitat for Humanity that will go toward helping veterans to make repairs and improvements to their homes.
Some of the work the grant will help fund includes re-roofing, plumbing, repairing foundations, stabilizing floors, replacing windows, and making other cost-saving and energy efficient improvements such as by repairing, servicing or replacing hot water tanks and HVAC systems, according to GrantWatch.
“This particular grant, we estimate we’re going to be doing around 30 critical repairs for veterans and surviving spouses,” Jack Wilson, CEO of Smith County Habitat for Humanity, said. “That’ll bring us up to almost 90 veterans that we have been able to make an impact with this particular money.”
Smith County Habitat for Humanity has previously received similar grant funds to assist veterans. Since 2014, the Texas Veterans Commission has awarded approximately $900,000 in grants to the organization.
