Lance Gooden, a U.S. Congressman representing Texas' 5th district, recently shared his views on several current issues through a series of tweets. Gooden has been serving in Congress since 2019 and previously served in the Texas House of Representatives. His educational background includes degrees from the University of Texas, Austin.
On November 20, 2024, Gooden commented on Los Angeles's decision to become a sanctuary city. He stated, "Los Angeles has just voted to become a sanctuary city. My reaction is simple: Any city that prevents the enforcement of immigration laws should not receive a cent from federal taxpayers."
The following day, November 21, he addressed credit card swipe fees in the United States compared to Europe. He remarked that "In Europe, credit card swipe fees range from 0.3% to 0.4%. In the United States, credit card swipe fees range from 2% to 4%. It's past time we end the Visa-Mastercard duopoly in America and pass the Credit Card Competition Act."
Later on November 21, Gooden reacted to Ellen DeGeneres's reported move to England following President Trump's election victory. He expressed his sentiments by stating "Ellen DeGeneres has moved to England over President Trump's landslide victory. I'm not sick of winning yet. Are you?"
