Lance Gooden, a U.S. Congressman representing Texas' 5th district, has been vocal on social media about his stance against non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that he alleges are using taxpayer dollars to support illegal immigration. In a series of tweets dated January 29, 2025, Gooden outlined his concerns and actions taken regarding these issues.

In a tweet posted on January 29, 2025, Gooden claimed that "During the last four years, NGOs have been secretly using your tax dollars to fund Biden's border invasion." He indicated that he has exposed these activities and is working towards defunding groups he describes as pro-illegal immigration.

On the same day, Gooden referenced an incident involving Laken Riley in another tweet. He stated that "After Laken Riley's horrific murder by an illegal alien, I immediately got to work to hold Biden-funded NGOs accountable." He emphasized that taxpayers should not fund organizations that shelter dangerous individuals who are illegally present in the country.

Further addressing specific organizations, Gooden tweeted about Catholic Charities on January 29, 2025. He alleged their involvement in what he terms Joe Biden's border crisis: "NGOs like Catholic Charities played a pivotal role in Joe Biden's border crisis." Gooden mentioned giving them an ultimatum to either provide requested documentation voluntarily or face legal compulsion through a subpoena.
