Lance Gooden, a U.S. Congressman representing Texas’ 5th district, has expressed his concerns through a series of tweets regarding the American Red Cross and government funding of NGOs. Gooden, who succeeded Jeb Hensarling in 2019 and previously served in the Texas House of Representatives, is vocal about issues concerning immigration and taxpayer money.

On January 29, 2025, Gooden tweeted about the American Red Cross, stating that the organization's claim to "neither prevent nor encourage migration" is false. He demanded a Department of Justice investigation into the Red Cross for allegedly providing "how-to" manuals for migrants to illegally enter the United States. "The American Red Cross will tell you the organization 'neither prevents nor encourages migration.' It's a flat-out lie."

In another tweet on January 29, 2025, Gooden criticized the use of taxpayer dollars by Biden's Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which he claims funded NGOs that facilitated illegal immigration. He announced his collaboration with fellow representatives Jim Jordan and Tom McClintock to investigate this issue further. "First, your tax dollars funded Biden's DHS...I joined @Jim_Jordan & @RepMcClintock to launch an investigation into why taxpayer dollars were being used on freebies for illegals."

Gooden concluded with a commitment to defund organizations that support open-border policies. He pledged to work alongside President Trump to ensure such NGOs do not receive any taxpayer money in the future. "The fight to defund these organizations once and for all doesn't end here."
