Alto ISD Education: 556 students were enrolled in schools in 2021-22 school year

There were 556 students enrolled in Alto ISD schools in the 2021-22 school year, 8.7% less than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2021-22 school year, 51.6% of them were boys, and 48.4% were girls.

The most represented ethnicity among Alto ISD students was Hispanic, accounting for 37.8% of the student population.

Alto ISD roughly covers schools within Cherokee County with its main office in Alto.

Among the three schools in Alto ISD, Alto Elementary School recorded the highest enrollment of 227 students in the 2021-22 school year.

Education in Texas is often a hot button issue, especially as test scores lag behind other states.

"The problems commonly cited are flaws in the school financing system, relatively low teacher salary, poor test performance by students... dropouts from traditional schools in favor of charter schools... gun violence, and mental health issues," claimed the Texas Almanac.
