CITY OF TYLER: City to apply for flood infrastructure grant from Texas Water Development Board

Bsuienss

City of Tyler issued the following announcement.

On Wednesday, the City Council unanimously voted to adopt a resolution authorizing the City to apply for funding from the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) Flood Infrastructure Fund (FIF) program grant. The resolution names the City Engineer as the City's authorized representative to furnish documents for the applications and Halff Associates, Inc. as the engineering firm assisting the City with the applications.

The FIF program provides financial assistance in the form of loans and grants for flood control, flood mitigation and drainage projects.

“For the past several years, the City has been working with Halff Associates, Inc. on a Comprehensive Storm Water Master Plan,” said City Engineer Lisa Crossman. “The City authorized Halff Associates, Inc. to make a pre-application to the TWDB in order to see if the projects would be eligible to receive grant funding. If so, the City would then be invited by the TWDB to make a full application. The City was notified by the TWDB that the project is ranked high enough to receive funding.”

The two projects identified for the grant were preliminary engineering studies to analyze drainage along Gentry Parkway and the area west of South Palace Avenue between Erwin Street and Old Noonday Road.

The Black Fork Creek at Gentry Parkway preliminary engineering study will provide detailed analysis of the drainage along Gentry Parkway, as well as the bridge at the Black Fork Creek crossing. The study would establish flooding inundation limits and develop mitigation alternatives. If selected for the FIF program grant, TWDB would pay for 35 percent or $28,000 of the $80,000 total cost. The remaining $52,000 would be funded through the Half-Cent Sales Tax Fund.
