Fruitvale ISD issued the following announcement.
The Fruitvale Bobcats are 1-0 in district for the 1st time since 2013! The boys came through with a 52-25 victory over Campbell on Friday night. After a slow start to the night, the Bobcats finally got on the board with a CJ Russell interception that was returned for a touchdown. After another Campbell score, the boys found themselves in a 14-6 hole with 2:45 left in the half. Fortunately, the boys made the most of their time by scoring 3 touchdowns in less than 2 minutes. The first 2 were long passes from Seth Vandiver to Lucas Hendrix and Ronnie Foster. The third came on a deep ball from BJ Russell to Jackson Burton with 1 second on the clock.
The second half came up all Bobcats as the offense used all the momentum from the 1st half to pick up touchdown runs from Jeremiah Corley, Jackson Burton, and Lucas Hendrix, while using powerful running from Pepper Koonce and blocking from Rogers Martin. Brian Flores and Landon Moulton were also able to help the cause by adding 2 conversions.
Defensively, the boys were able to create 4 turnovers on the night. Interceptions coming from CJ Russell, Isidro Hernandez, and Adam Bumgardner, and a fumble recovery coming from Hernandez. The Bobcats caused havoc for the Campbell backfield by tallying 3 sacks and 6 tackles for loss.

This Friday, 10/23, the boys have their biggest game in recent memory with a shot at the postseason. A win at Leverett's Chapel gets the Bobcats into the playoffs for the first time since 2000. Although Leverett's Chapel is about an hour away, I hope that we can get as many fans as possible at this game.
