Tyler Junior College issued the following announcement.
TJC is one of more than 100 higher ed institutions in the nation — and only eight in Texas — to receive a 2020 Educational Fundraising Award from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education.
TJC has been awarded in the Overall Performance category for public two-year institutions with endowment pools over $8 million.
Overall assets for the Tyler Junior College Foundation have surpassed $80 million, making it the largest support organization for a community college in the state.
“TJC and the Tyler Junior College Foundation benefit from the continuing generosity of the East Texas community,” said Mitch Andrews, TJC vice president for institutional advancement and executive director of the TJC Foundation. “It has been my privilege to work with the College and the TJC Foundation for more than 18 years and help build philanthropic support for TJC and its students, faculty and programs.”
The TJC Foundation is a separate, 501(c)(3) support organization governed by a 27-member, self-perpetuating board of directors. Institutional foundations play a vital role in raising and managing private resources in support of public institutions such as TJC.

Andrews, Farrington to represent TJC on CASE national committees
Andrews and Susan Farrington, TJC director of alumni relations, have been appointed to CASE national advisory committees.
Andrews has been appointed to the advisory committee for CASE’s Center for Community College Advancement. The 12-member committee focuses on opportunities and professional development needs for community college advancement professionals, engages colleagues in issues facing community college advancement, identifies trends and best practices and builds support for the center.
Andrews has previously served as a past chair for the national conference hosted by the CASE Center for Community College Advancement; and he has served on the planning committee and as a presenter for the first CASE virtual conference, which focused on alumni relations for community colleges. He has also served as vice president for the Texas Association of Community College Foundations (TACCF).
Susan Farrington, TJC director of alumni relations, has been appointed to the CASE Commission on Alumni Relations. Her three-year term begins in July.
Farrington joins a group of 13 other professionals in providing counsel to the CASE staff and board regarding higher education’s emerging issues and trends as well as the highest ethical and professional standards.
She was chosen for her knowledge of and experience with a large public institution, a highly ranked private institution and an exceptional community college as well as her involvement in a variety of related disciplines including university relations for industry and student, alumni and employer relations for academic institutions. She also had a lead role in giving the alumni relations presentation in 2019 at CASE District IV in Fort Worth and at CASE National in San Diego.
“Susan and I look forward to working with other community college leaders in building support for advancement at two-year institutions across the nation,” Andrews said.
