Tyler Junior College issued the following announcement on Feb. 06
Dr. Steven Novella, clinical neurologist and assistant professor of neurology at Yale University, will be the featured speaker for two public science lectures Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 12 and 13.
The events will be held on the campuses of Tyler Junior College and The University of Texas at Tyler. They are free and open to the public.
Novella is the best-selling author of “The Skeptics’ Guide to the Universe” and host of a popular science podcast of the same name. He has welcomed many prominent guests on his show, including former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, “MythBuster” Adam Savage and Bill Nye the Science Guy.
He is regularly invited as a panelist at popular science and technical conferences around the world, for his expertise in science communication, science-based medicine and critical thinking.
The first lecture, “Science Denial,” will be held 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, in the UT Tyler University Theater, located at 3900 University Blvd., on the UT Tyler campus.
His second lecture, “Countering Creationist Logic,” will be held 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, in the Apache Rooms of Rogers Student Center, 1401 E. Lake St., on the TJC main campus.
The events, which are part of annual Darwin Day activities, are sponsored by The Earth and Space Science Center at TJC, the UT Tyler departments of biology and social sciences, Discovery Science Place, the National Science Foundation, and Alpha Chi National College Honor Society.
