Lance Gooden, U.S. Representative for Texas from District 5 | Official U.S. House Headshot
Lance Gooden, a current member of the U.S. Congress representing Texas’s 5th district, has expressed strong opinions through a series of tweets on controversial topics. Gooden, who succeeded Jeb Hensarling in 2019 and previously served in the Texas House of Representatives, highlighted a range of issues from transgender athletes to immigration policies.
On April 17, 2025, Gooden expressed concern over the participation of transgender athletes in women's sports. Referencing Maine’s Attorney General, he stated, "Maine's Attorney General says 'there are no safety concerns' in allowing trans athletes to play in women's sports. Here's what happens when men compete against women: https://t.co/c7a1SbX0Gx".
Later on the same day, Gooden criticized President Joe Biden's administration regarding immigration policies. He tweeted, "Joe Biden wouldn't allow American citizens abroad to board a flight to the U.S. without a negative COVID test. Today, the Democrats' number one issue is flying an illegal alien MS-13 terrorist back to the U.S. 'America Last' has always been the Democrat motto!".
The following day, Gooden questioned the financial implications of a trip made by a political figure. He inquired, "How much did Senator Van Hollen's trip to El Salvador to sip margaritas with an MS-13 gang member cost taxpayers? @DOGE & @elonmusk — The American people would like to know!".
Lance Gooden, who was born in Nashville, Tennessee in 1982, currently lives in Terrell. He graduated with a BA and BBA from the University of Texas, Austin, in 2001 and 2004, respectively. His opinions, particularly on social issues and government spending, continue to influence his legislative and public discourse.
