Enrollment at Chapel Hill ISD schools decreased by 2.6% compared to previous school year

There were 3,308 students enrolled in Chapel Hill ISD schools in the 2022-23 school year, 2.6% less than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 52.9% of them were boys, and 47.1% were girls.

Data also shows that the majority of students were Hispanic, representing 52.6% of the Chapel Hill ISD total enrollment.

Chapel Hill ISD roughly covers schools within Smith County with its main office in Tyler.

Among the five schools in Chapel Hill ISD, Chapel Hill High School recorded the highest enrollment of 1,063 students in the 2022-23 school year.

Education in Texas is often a hot button issue, especially as test scores lag behind other states.

"The problems commonly cited are flaws in the school financing system, relatively low teacher salary, poor test performance by students... dropouts from traditional schools in favor of charter schools... gun violence, and mental health issues," claimed the Texas Almanac.
