Enrollment Analysis: American Indian students comprised 0.5% of Hawkins ISD schools' student body in 2022-23 school year

There were four American Indian students enrolled in Hawkins ISD schools in the 2022-23 school year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Data showed that Hawkins ISD schools welcomed 769 students during the 2022-23 school year. Among them, American Indian students comprised 0.5% of the student body to be one of the least represented ethnicities in the district.

Hawkins ISD roughly covers schools within Wood County and has a main office in Hawkins.

Both schools in Hawkins ISD schools enrolled two American Indian students in the 2022-23 school year.

The Texas education system is currently torn between public schools and taxpayer-funded private schools.

Critics argue that private schools use funds that should go to the public school system, while private school advocates claim they’re offering better education for more Texas students.
