There were 769 students enrolled in Hawkins ISD schools in the 2022-23 school year, 2.9% more than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 50.5% of them were boys, and 49.5% were girls.

Data also shows that the majority of students were white, representing 81.3% of the Hawkins ISD total enrollment.

Hawkins ISD roughly covers schools within Wood County with its main office in Hawkins.

Among the two schools in Hawkins ISD, Hawkins High School / Middle recorded the highest enrollment of 386 students in the 2022-23 school year.

Education in Texas is often a hot button issue, especially as test scores lag behind other states.

"The problems commonly cited are flaws in the school financing system, relatively low teacher salary, poor test performance by students... dropouts from traditional schools in favor of charter schools... gun violence, and mental health issues," claimed the Texas Almanac.
