2022: 79 coaches at institutions in Smith County earned on average $58,069

Smith County’s 79 coaches earned an average salary of $58,069 in 2022, according to the U.S. Department of Education.

This is the 27th highest average salary per county earned by coaches at Texas post-secondary schools during 2022.

Smith County is home to three post-secondary schools that paid coaches during 2022. Among them, The University of Texas at Tyler stood out with the highest average coaching salary of $75,520.

Male coaches of men's teams received $51,389 on average in Smith County, while female coaches in charge of women's teams earned an average of $50,080.

Research from the Vanderbilt Owen Graduate School of Management found NCAA coaches are compensated like CEOs, with top coaches earning more than $1.5 million annually.
