University of Texas at Tyler president Michael Tidwell donates $750 to Louis B. Gohmert Jr.'s campaign

Michael Tidwell, a president at The University of Texas at Tyler, donated $750 to Republican Party candidate Louis B. Gohmert Jr., according to the Federal Election Commission.

According to records, there have been $1,784 in campaign contributions made by individuals affiliated with The University of Texas at Tyler as of November 3. Approximately 64.5 percent, or $1,150, of these contributions were made to Republican Party candidates and committees.

Michael Tidwell's contribution was the largest contribution made by someone affiliated with The University of Texas at Tyler since January 1, 2019.

According to an Inside Higher Ed analysis of federal elections data, individuals that were affiliated with colleges and universities have donated five times more money to Joe Biden than to President Trump. A study by Pew Research in 2017 found that 58 percent of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents thought colleges and universities have a negative impact on the way things are going in this country.
