Congressman Lance Gooden of Texas has reintroduced the Protect America’s Innovation and Economic Security from CCP Act. This bipartisan bill aims to counter espionage, intellectual property theft, and economic threats posed by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) against the United States. The bill proposes the establishment of a CCP Initiative within the Department of Justice to address these issues.
"The CCP has stolen from our businesses, infiltrated our institutions, and undermined our economy for far too long," said Rep. Gooden. "This bill will ensure the U.S. government has the resources to expose, investigate, and prosecute those who seek to weaken America."
The legislation includes provisions to investigate and prosecute espionage, hacking, and trade secret theft by the CCP. It also seeks to protect U.S. businesses from unfair competition and foreign influence while enhancing coordination between various national security agencies.
"We must act now to defend our economy and national security from China’s aggression," Gooden added. "Congress must send a clear message: America will not tolerate the CCP’s economic sabotage."
Senator Rick Scott supports this initiative in the Senate. He stated, "The Chinese Communist Party is one of the greatest threats to America’s national security and way of life as it seeks global domination by any means necessary." Senator Scott criticized President Joe Biden for ending a previous initiative targeting CCP activities during his administration but expressed confidence that former President Trump would address these concerns effectively.
