Today, Congressman Lance Gooden expressed his support for President Donald J. Trump and Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem's decision to halt federal funding to non-governmental organizations (NGOs) involved in illegal immigration activities. The move aims to stop the flow of taxpayer money that has been used to support mass illegal migration, which is seen as a threat to national security.
Gooden criticized the previous administration, stating, "This is state-sanctioned human smuggling." He accused the Biden administration of collaborating with radical NGOs through federal agencies like DHS, HHS, and FEMA to fund migrant resettlement efforts. These organizations reportedly provided financial assistance and transportation for illegal immigrants while advocating for open borders.
The congressman highlighted that more than $2.4 billion from FEMA was allocated to NGOs between 2021 and 2024 for aiding illegal immigrants. According to Gooden, these NGOs have been linked with left-wing activists who undermine border security.
Congressional Republicans are calling for a comprehensive review of NGO funding from fiscal years 2021 through 2025. They demand an immediate end to federal contracts and grants for any organization supporting illegal immigration and seek legal accountability for those involved in human smuggling or misuse of taxpayer funds.
"This is the first step in restoring order and shutting down the open-borders racket," said Gooden. "Trump is taking back control. No more taxpayer-funded illegal immigration. No more collusion. No more excuses. America comes first."
