WASHINGTON –  On May 16, Rep. Lance Gooden (R-TX) and Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), and Rep. McClintock (R-CA) signed a letter to Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) demanding a comprehensive review of all documents, communications, and agreements related to the department's engagement with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) providing food, lodging, and transportation to illegal aliens encountered at the southwest border.

The congressmen's request, which includes all federal funding awards made to NGOs from January 20, 2021, to May 11, 2023, seeks to clarify the extent and nature of the department's relationship with these organizations.

The lawmakers have asked for detailed information regarding the competitive procedures for NGOs to receive these federal awards. "Transparency and accountability are non-negotiable elements of our public institutions," said Rep. Gooden. "We owe it to the American people to ensure that their taxpayer dollars are used responsibly and effectively."

The letter also requested unredacted and signed Justification and Approval (J&A) documents for any award for less than full and open competition. The congressmen have requested DHS produce all documents and information no later than 5:00 p.m. on May 30, 2023.
