Small businesses in Wood County have relief on the way as the Wood County Economic Development Commission is setting aside funds to help businesses suffering financial setbacks because of the COVID-19 crisis.

According to the county’s website, the commission will issue a total of $200,000 to aid businesses that meet a handful of guidelines. Mineola businesses are eligible for a maximum of $20,000, while companies in Winnsboro can receive up to $15,000 and Quitman businesses qualify for up to $10,000. Alba, Hawkins and Yantis businesses can apply for $5,000 each.

Companies can use the grant for costs like payroll, equipment and supplies, and expenses like marketing, sanitation, and personal protective equipment.

In addition, Chambers of Commerce that ask for funds can receive $10,000 in alignment with their needs. In addition, $10,000 – along with any funds that haven’t been distributed – will be used for discretionary purposes, such as assisting businesses that meet the guidelines and need additional assistance.
