Gregg, Rusk and Wood counties were recently awarded grants totaling $635,000 from the North East Texas Regional Mobility Authority for transportation projects.

According to KLTV, the funds were generated by Toll 49, and can be used for airport, rail and road projects.

The smallest grant went to Wood County, where the $125,000 awarded has been earmarked for projects at the Wood County Collins Field Airport, including drainage and additional aircraft parking.

At the high end, Gregg County will receive $270,000 to make improvements to the Hawkins Parkway and Good Shepherd Way intersection, including traffic lights and widening Hawkins Parkway for a left-turn lane.

Rusk County has been awarded $240,000 for safety and customer service-related improvements to the Henderson-Overton Shortline Branch Rail.

“Each project is unique and merits the support of the NET RMA to bring increased mobility, economic development and safety in the East Texas Region,” NET RMA interim Executive Director Everett Owen told KLTV.
