Arbor

Tyler Junior College issued the following announcement.

An Arbor Day tree planting will be held Saturday, Feb. 8, at TJC North, located at 75 Miranda Lambert Way in Lindale. The event is free and open to the public.

The event is co-sponsored by Tyler Junior College, the City of Lindale and Visit Lindale.

Registration and information booths open at 9 a.m., with an opening ceremony at 10 a.m. Tree planting will begin at 10:30 a.m., and the event will wrap up with lunch sponsored by Republic Services and a closing ceremony. In addition, Lindale’s Lillie Russell Memorial Library will provide a children’s craft.

“For the past several years, we’ve held this event on our main campus in Tyler; but we’re very excited to be hosting it in Lindale this year,” said Lauren Tyler, TJC director of student life.

Tyler said volunteers are invited to help plant more than 50 trees around the Mutt Nation Station pet adoption center and dog park and Darden Harvest Park, near The Cannery shopping and entertainment district.

“We’ve been working with the Texas A&M Forest Service to help us select locations and an assortment of trees that are native to Texas,” Tyler said.

Volunteers will receive a free Arbor Day T-shirt and be entered to win door prizes. To register, go to bit.ly/ArborDay2020 (case-sensitive link).

“TJC and Lindale are great partners in education, and we’re thrilled to join forces for this project that will bring so much beauty and enjoyment to our town,” said Seong MacLaren, Visit Lindale director of tourism.

“The trees we plant together will be a constant reminder of our strong friendship with TJC.”
