Lance Gooden, a U.S. Congressman representing Texas’s 5th District since 2019, is known for his active social media presence commenting on issues concerning immigration and national security. Gooden, who replaced Jeb Hensarling and previously served in the Texas House of Representatives, posted a series of tweets addressing these topics.

On April 22, 2025, Gooden noted via Twitter about an incident involving Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). He stated, “ICE has arrested an illegal alien wanted in India on terrorism-related charges. When agents searched the alien’s phone, did they find Democrat Van Hollen’s number on speed dial?”

On the same day, Gooden commented on immigration enforcement policies, stating his views on the comparative effectiveness of recent presidential actions. This tweet claimed, “Under Joe Biden, 40% of catch-and-release illegal aliens ‘disappeared.’ Under President Trump, the number of illegal aliens caught and released has dropped by 99.99%. All we needed was a new President.”

A day later, on April 23, 2025, Gooden remarked on what he perceives as a shift among Democrats regarding financial priorities related to immigration. He posted, “Democrats are just now realizing it may not be worth using tax dollars to travel to a foreign country to defend an illegal alien who is a member of MS-13 and an alleged domestic abuser and human trafficker. These are the same geniuses who want to run the government.”

Gooden, who earned degrees from the University of Texas, Austin, and was born in Nashville, Tennessee, has been vocal in addressing issues surrounding illegal immigration during his time in Congress.
