Lance Gooden, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Texas’ 5th district since 2019, has recently shared his views on several issues through social media posts. Gooden, who succeeded Jeb Hensarling and previously served in the Texas House of Representatives from 2017 to 2019, addressed topics ranging from legal matters to military policies.

On May 6, 2025, Gooden commented on New York Attorney General Letitia James’s announcement of a lawsuit against the Trump Administration. He described her statement as an “unhinged rant” and labeled the lawsuit as “bogus.” In his post, he emphasized that “no one is above the law,” referring to what he called her “alleged mortgage fraud” (“Letitia James went on an unhinged rant while announcing a bogus lawsuit against the Trump Administration…”).

Later that day, Gooden expressed his opinion regarding the U.S. military. He stated that it should not be used for what he termed “woke social experiments,” asserting this view with finality (“The U.S. military isn’t the place for woke social experiments.”).

On May 7, 2025, Gooden turned his attention to funding concerns related to scientific research. He criticized the use of American tax dollars for gain-of-function research at a laboratory in Wuhan, China. He assured that under former President Donald Trump’s leadership, such funding would not occur again (“American tax dollars should have never been used to fund gain-of-function research at a lab in Wuhan…”).

Gooden was born in Nashville, Tennessee in 1982 and currently resides in Terrell. He holds degrees from the University of Texas at Austin.
