Lance Gooden, a U.S. Congressman representing Texas’ 5th district since 2019, has taken to social media to express his views on current political issues. Gooden, who previously served in the Texas House of Representatives and holds degrees from the University of Texas at Austin, is vocal about border security and federal government actions.

On May 16, 2025, Gooden addressed concerns regarding the southern border in a tweet stating that “The southern border is secure, criminal illegal aliens are being deported, the wall is being built, and border apprehensions are down by more than 90%.” He questioned why House Democrats are against additional funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), suggesting their stance is due to a pro-open borders position.

In another post on the same day, Gooden compared approaches between administrations regarding domestic policy enforcement: “Joe Biden’s DOJ targeted school parents. President Trump’s DOJ targeted terrorists. What a difference 4 months can make.” This statement reflects his criticism of what he perceives as differing priorities under different presidential administrations.

Later that day, Gooden promoted legislative efforts supporting certain aspects of former President Trump’s agenda with a tweet about “The Big Beautiful Bill.” He wrote that it aims to “Kick illegal immigrants off taxpayer funded benefits… Fund the border wall… Give the biggest tax cut in history… Restore American greatness!” Emphasizing unity and fulfilling mandates supported by voters was also part of his message.

Lance Gooden was born in Nashville, Tennessee in 1982 and currently resides in Terrell. His educational background includes earning both a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Texas at Austin.
