Lance Gooden, a U.S. Congressman serving Texas’ 5th district since 2019, has recently taken to social media to discuss issues of public concern ranging from taxpayer expenditures to educational institution valuations and potential tax changes. Gooden, who succeeded Jeb Hensarling in Congress and was previously a Texas House Representative, provides his perspective on matters impacting his constituents and the broader American public. Born in Nashville, Tennessee, Gooden, 40, resides in Terrell and holds degrees from the University of Texas, Austin.

In a tweet dated May 2, 2025, Gooden commented on Anthony Fauci’s taxpayer-funded salary, expressing approval of @DNIGabbard’s investigation into Fauci’s involvement with Wuhan gain-of-function research linked to COVID-19. He stated, “Anthony Fauci was earning a taxpayer-funded salary of $417,608 per year to lie to the American people. I am glad @DNIGabbard is investigating Fauci’s role in funding Wuhan gain-of-function research tied to COVID-19.”

On the same day, Gooden addressed the financial status of Harvard University, referencing its endowment value. He remarked, “Harvard’s endowment is valued at $53.2 billion. The pro-Hamas, formerly prestigious university will be just fine.” This statement followed controversies related to sentiments expressed by some university-affiliated groups.

On May 3, 2025, Gooden voiced concerns regarding potential tax implications for Texans should the Trump Tax Cuts expire. He expressed disagreement with the idea that $1,550 is merely “crumbs,” a view attributed to Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats. “The average family in Texas will face a $1,550 tax hike if the Trump Tax Cuts expire. Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats think $1,550 is ‘crumbs.’ Hardworking Texans do not.”

Lance Gooden graduated from the University of Texas, Austin, with a BA in 2001 and a BBA in 2004.
